    Description

    A patient care technician (PCT) is similar to a certified nursing assistant, but generally with more advanced technical skills. Certified PCTs work in a hospital or residential care facility under the direction of a registered nurse or physician. They provide both technical and supportive nursing care for patients. Their job encompasses many clinical tasks, such as performing electrocardiograms (EKGs), collecting blood (phlebotomy), recording vital signs, catheterization, and performing other various tests or diagnostic procedures. They also prepare patients for procedures, assist in moving them if needed, change sterile bandages, and set up medical supplies. They will also collect and document information, medical history, and communicate with patients, their families, and medical staff.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Involved with patient care including; assisting the technologist with exams, monitoring patient flow, reviewing patient records/charts prior to delivering care and providing clear patient education and instructions.
    • Assists with daily/weekly clinical duties.
    • Assists in scanning and obtaining medical records.
    • Assists with patient transfers and preparing patients for exams.
    • Obtains vital signs and IV line insertion when needed.
    • Uses DOC-LINK of invoices for billing in radiology.
    • On call for Apple-tree workflow

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    • High School diploma plus some college
    • At least two years experience in the medical field
    • CPR certification is required

    The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland's Faculty Physician's Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range.
