The Patient Care Secretary / CNA is a dual-role position responsible for providing both direct patient care and clerical support within the inpatient unit. This role supports the interdisciplinary team by assisting with patient care activities, maintaining accurate documentation, coordinating communication, and ensuring smooth daily unit operations. The ideal candidate is compassionate, organized, and able to balance clinical and administrative responsibilities in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Location: Lee Memorial Hospital IPU - Fort Myers Schedule: Part-time, weekends only (Saturday & Sunday) Hours: 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM (12-hour shifts with 1-hour lunch) Pay Range: $15-$18/hour Language: Spanish preferred Requirement: Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). HHA credentials are not accepted due to hospital requirements.

Essential Responsibilities

Patient Care (CNA Duties)

• Provides direct bedside care under the supervision of licensed nursing staff • Assists patients with activities of daily living including hygiene, grooming, toileting, feeding, and mobility • Safely transfers and ambulates patients using appropriate equipment and techniques • Takes and records vital signs and reports changes in patient condition to nursing staff • Assists with repositioning patients to maintain comfort and prevent skin breakdown • Maintains a clean, safe patient environment • Observes infection control and safety procedures at all times • Provides emotional support to patients and families • Documents care activities accurately and timely

Patient Care Secretary Duties

• Serves as the communication hub for the unit • Answers phones, relays messages, and coordinates communication between departments • Maintains patient charts, records, and electronic documentation • Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharge paperwork • Orders supplies and maintains unit inventory • Schedules and coordinates internal requests as directed by nursing staff • Supports workflow to ensure efficient patient care operations • Performs general clerical tasks including filing, data entry, and report preparation

Qualifications

Active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license required High school diploma or equivalent preferred Previous hospital or inpatient experience preferred Strong communication and organizational skills Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment Basic computer proficiency Ability to read, write, and follow instructions Bilingual Spanish preferred

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift and assist patients (20+ pounds) Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting Ability to respond quickly in patient care situations Visual and auditory ability sufficient for patient monitoring and communication

Reporting Structure

Reports directly to the Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse and receives daily clinical direction from licensed nursing staff.
