Patient Care Assistant - Transitional Care Unit - TCU 3rd - University Hospital

Takes and records vital signs and weight; records accurate intake and output (to include NG, chest tube, ostomy bags, foley, etc.).

• Receives verbal/written assignments from RN/LPN
• Assists patients with Activities of Daily Living
• Reports any changes in patient condition to RN/LPN
• Maintains clean and neat stocked areas and patient rooms
• Cleans equipment between each patient use
• Operates unit equipment as required
• Runs unit errands as needed
• Assists with and accompanies patients on admission, discharge, and transfer
• Answers patient call lights promptly; keeps hallway clear of equipment
• Distributes water and ice
• Maintains 24-hour urine collections
• Performs catheter checks and blood glucose monitoring
• Takes and records vital signs and weight; records accurate intake and output (to include NG, chest tube, ostomy bags, foley, etc.)
• Signs/initials documentation
• Documents patient turns and repositioning
• Reports any skin condition to RN
• Assists with completion of daily flow sheet
• Responds to overhead pages
• Participates in orientation of new employees as assigned
• Accesses and accurately maintains electronic and paper medical records
• Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
• Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
• Regular and prompt attendance
• Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
• Related duties as assigned
• Additional Information: Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits. Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or equivalent Required
• Experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education Preferred
• BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
• Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
