Position: Patient Care Assistant

Reports to: Clinical Resource Manager

Classification: Full time or Part time, non-exempt (hourly)

Compensation Range: Starting at $18-$19.50/hour)

Location: Granite City, Illinois

Job Summary

The role of the Patient Care Assistant will be to provide patient-centered, trauma-informed medical care to patients and be responsible for maintaining the key clinical areas in the building. All employees are expected to uphold and promote Hope Clinic's mission statement, code of ethics, patient care standards and policies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews medical history, takes and documents vital signs, and communicates urgent or abnormal results to RN or clinician. Maintain accurate charting and documentation of all care rendered to the patient.
  • Reviews paperwork, completes intakes, obtains informed consents and assists with patient education.
  • Assist physicians, advanced practice clinicians, and/or RNs in clinical areas.
  • Set up and close down clinical areas, including thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing rooms, ensuring that equipment is sterile, and coordinating waste management
  • Ensure compliance of pertinent Hope Clinic policies and protocols, Illinois State regulations, OSHA guidelines and universal precautions. Ensures strict adherence to all federal HIPAA statutes and possesses understanding of medical confidentiality.
  • Provide or oversee the provision of aftercare instructions and patient education.
  • Provides physical and emotional support to patients, effectively managing patient anxieties and fears.
  • Assist with timely and efficient execution of all front desk activities, including but not limited to registering and checking-in/out patients, maintaining patient medical records, obtaining any additional consents needed for services and greeting visitors.
  • Provide resources, referrals, and other support as needed.

Working Conditions

  • This position operates in an outpatient office setting. Working spaces will include exam rooms, procedure rooms and a recovery room.

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear in person, on the telephone, and via web conference. Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens, is necessary. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • This position requires the ability to frequently lift and move patients.
  • This role requires both standing and sitting.
