Summary:

Boulder Medical Center (BMC) is currently seeking Patient Access Manager candidates to join our Operations team! This position works full-time 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

Under supervision of the Director of Finance, the Patient Access Manager provides leadership and strategic direction for the patient access, front desk, and centralized scheduling functions across all Boulder Medical Center (BMC) locations. This role defines workflows, shapes strategy, and leads the front-desk team to deliver excellent patient experience while supporting organizational revenue cycle goals.

The Patient Access Manager serves as a thought leader and subject matter expert; developing best practices for scheduling, registration, insurance verification, and collections. Through coaching, teaching, and training, the role ensures consistent, high-quality staff performance. By leveraging Epic as the electronic medical record and collaborating cross-functionally, the Patient Access Manager drives efficiency, accuracy, and compliance throughout patient access.

Job responsibilities:

  • Act as a thought partner to revenue cycle leadership, clinical leaders, and operations to align patient access strategy with organizational goals
  • Serve as an escalation point for patient access concerns, resolving issues with professionalism and attention to both patient satisfaction and business impact
  • Define and implement standardized workflows for scheduling, registration, insurance verification, and collections to ensure consistency and efficiency across all BMC locations
  • Establish clear expectations and key performance indicators for front desk operations
  • Establish, communicate, and enforce policies and procedures that support compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, payer rules, and other regulatory requirements
  • Anticipate and respond to organizational needs, positioning the patient access function to adapt effectively to future challenges and opportunities
  • Provide ongoing teaching, coaching, and mentoring to patient access staff, fostering professional growth, engagement, and resilience

Required Experience:
  • Must use good judgment and discretion in greeting and screening patients and in obtaining personal information required for patient’s medical record and credit history.
  • Must be detail-oriented and possess strong problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Must be able to offer recommendations as well as provide daily work direction, leadership, and guidance to a diverse staff.
  • Intermediate proficiency and knowledge with computer systems and programs including but not limited to MS Office software.
  • Must consistently demonstrate flexibility and willingness to adjust to maximize business profitability.
  • Must possess exceptional computer skills with demonstrated competency in the use of common office software and specialized medical software applications. Strong working knowledge of how to create spreadsheets, documents, reports and presentations. Must have the ability to read and interpret data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms. Strong organizational skills. Ability to work well under pressure and continuously meet deadlines.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, organizational management, related field required.

Previous Experience:

  • Three (3) or more years, or progressively responsible experience working as a Reception, Patient Access or Call Center Manager.
  • Working knowledge of patient registration, insurance and financial service processes in a hospital or clinic setting.
  • Must have practical and technical knowledge of medical billing in a hospital or provider setting as well as related customer service experience.
  • Experience with managing healthcare staffing preferred.

Salary Range:

  • $78,000 - $97,000/annually; depending on experience.

This position will be posted for a minimum of three days, subsequently until filled.
