About the Facility
Join a private pathology practice supporting a large healthcare system in Northern Michigan.
The pathology team includes multiple Pathologists and Pathologists Assistants supporting a high-volume surgical pathology laboratory processing approximately 45,000 surgical specimens annually.
This travel opportunity offers a broad surgical pathology workload, exposure to routine and complex specimens, and the opportunity to work closely with Pathologists and laboratory staff in a collaborative environment.
Position Highlights

- Breast specimen radiography
- Photodocumentation of surgical specimens
- Autopsy participation, approximately 1014 per year
- Autopsies performed weekdays only

- Opportunity to work closely with multiple Pathologists and PAs
- Independent workflow with a diverse surgical pathology caseload
Clinical Responsibilities
- Gross routine and complex surgical pathology specimens
- Assist with frozen sections
- Perform accurate specimen orientation, dissection, and documentation
- Perform photodocumentation of pertinent surgical specimens
- Assist with breast specimen radiography
- Assist with autopsies as needed
- Manage a diverse caseload efficiently and independently
- Collaborate closely with Pathologists regarding specimen handling and gross examination
- Provide leadership and mentoring to hospital and laboratory staff
- Follow established laboratory procedures, quality standards, and safety protocols
Autopsy Responsibilities
The PA will assist with autopsy services as needed.
- Approximately 1014 autopsies annually
- Autopsies performed on weekdays only
- Assist with specimen examination, documentation, and related pathology procedures
Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree from a Pathologists Assistant program
- National certification as a Pathologists Assistant through ASCP and/or AAPA
- One year of experience preferred
- New graduates may be considered
- Strong surgical pathology grossing experience
- Comfortable handling routine and complex specimens
- Frozen section experience preferred
- Autopsy experience preferred
- Ability to work independently in a high-volume environment
- Strong attention to detail and specimen documentation
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work closely with Pathologists and laboratory staff
