• Autopsy responsibilities are currently managed by Pathologists

Clinical Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination and description of surgical pathology specimens
• Handle routine and complex surgical specimens in accordance with established protocols
• Properly orient, dissect, measure, and document specimens
• Select and submit appropriate tissue sections for processing and microscopic examination
• Ensure accurate specimen identification, labeling, and documentation
• Apply sound judgment when handling complex specimens and determining appropriate tissue sampling
• Collaborate with Pathologists and laboratory personnel to support efficient specimen processing and diagnostic workflows
• Maintain compliance with laboratory procedures, quality standards, and safety protocols
• Perform additional Pathologists’ Assistant duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Graduate of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program
• ASCP certification required or eligibility to obtain certification
• New graduates are welcome to apply
• Experience handling complex surgical pathology cases required
• Strong understanding of gross examination, specimen dissection, tissue selection, and documentation
• Excellent attention to detail and specimen identification practices
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Pathologists and laboratory staff
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
