Clinical Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this position is surgical pathology grossing, including:

• Gross examination and description of pathology specimens
• Grossing of both large and small surgical pathology cases
• Handling specimens across varying levels of complexity
• Proper specimen orientation, dissection, measurement, and documentation
• Selecting and submitting appropriate tissue for processing
• Maintaining accurate specimen identification and labeling
• Working closely with pathologists and laboratory staff to ensure appropriate specimen handling
• Following established laboratory procedures, quality standards, and safety protocols
• Performing other Pathologists’ Assistant duties as assigned

Qualifications

• ASCP certification required
• Experienced Pathologists’ Assistant
• Demonstrated experience grossing both large and small surgical pathology cases
• Comfortable working with mixed case complexity
• Strong knowledge of surgical pathology specimen handling and gross examination
• Excellent attention to detail and specimen identification practices
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative, team-oriented environment
• Dependable and adaptable in a high-volume laboratory setting

Work Environment

• 50+ laboratory staff members
• Pathologists’ Assistant coverage across day and evening shifts
• No night shift
• Dedicated grossing stations and necessary pathology equipment
• Meditech EMR
• No floating to other areas
• Team-oriented culture with an emphasis on being easy to work with and collaborative

Note: This position requires an experienced, ASCP-certified Pathologists’ Assistant. Candidates who do not meet the ASCP certification requirement will not be considered.
