• Primarily surgical pathology/grossing responsibilities
• Strong GYN component
• Frozen sections are uncommon for the PA role
• Histotechs generally handle frozen sections

Clinical Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination and description of surgical pathology specimens
• Handle routine surgical pathology specimens in accordance with established protocols
• Perform grossing across a variety of specimen types
• Support a significant GYN pathology workload
• Properly orient, dissect, measure, and document specimens
• Select and submit appropriate tissue for processing
• Ensure accurate specimen identification, labeling, and documentation
• Communicate with pathologists and laboratory staff regarding specimen handling and processing
• Follow established laboratory procedures, quality standards, and safety protocols
• Perform other Pathologists’ Assistant duties as assigned

Frozen Sections

Frozen sections are very uncommon for this position. Histotechnologists generally handle frozen section preparation, so the PA should not expect to routinely gross or cut frozen sections.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of Pathologists’ Assistant experience preferred
• Surgical pathology/grossing experience strongly preferred
• Strong GYN pathology experience preferred
• ASCP certification preferred, but not required
• Candidates without ASCP certification may be considered with relevant high-complexity laboratory experience
• Strong understanding of surgical pathology specimen handling and gross examination
• Excellent attention to detail and specimen identification practices
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with pathologists and laboratory staff
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced pathology environment
