Schedule: Determined by the VA's ordered coverage requirements.

About the position

GD Resources LLC is seeking an ASCP-certified Pathologists' Assistant to support the Anatomic Pathology Section at the Memphis VA Medical Center. The successful candidate will prepare surgical and postmortem specimens and support pathology workflow in coordination with the supervising pathologist's clinical and technical guidance.

Employment is contingent on contract award, government acceptance of the candidate, and successful completion of required onboarding. Hours are not guaranteed.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, grossly describe, and dissect human surgical tissue specimens.

  • Assist with preparation and performance of human postmortem examinations.

  • Identify lesions and obtain appropriate tissue samples.

  • Prepare frozen sections and stained slides for intraoperative consultations.

  • Coordinate and oversee gross pathology workflow and associated work areas, including the frozen-section room and autopsy suite.

  • Support specimen photography and procurement of samples for research or biospecimen banking.

  • Provide instruction or training in anatomy, gross pathology, specimen dissection, and autopsy techniques when assigned.

  • Assist with training pathology residents, fellows, students, and laboratory personnel.

  • Maintain accurate records and follow specimen-handling, laboratory safety, infection-control, and confidentiality procedures.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in clinical biology, microbiology, physiology, premedical studies, medical laboratory technology, chemistry, immunology, anatomy, or a related health science field.

  • Current ASCP certification as a Pathologists' Assistant.

  • Currently reside within 75 miles of the Memphis VA Medical Center.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform the listed anatomic pathology duties.

  • Strong attention to detail, documentation skills, and professional communication.

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

  • U.S. citizenship, as required for access to VA computer systems under this contract.

Onboarding requirements

Selected candidates must complete VA-required background screening, fingerprinting, orientation, privacy/security training, and credential review. Current BLS documentation, required health records, and acceptable federal-facility identification must be provided before assignment, as applicable.
