    Under the general supervision of a pathologist, prepares surgical specimens for examination, dictates test results, operates photographic equipment, and performs other related duties. Performs gross dissection, dictation, microscopic examination, frozen section cases, clinical histories and examination summaries. Assists with histology preparation of specimens

    Responsibilities

      1. Technical Duties
    • 1.1 Accurately processes surgical pathology specimens including properly fixing, cutting, photographing, and sectioning of surgical specimens

    • 2.1 Writes and maintains procedures of section in compliance with CAP guidelines
      1. Quality
    • 3.1 Investigates and documents problems with unacceptable specimens
      1. Problem solving
    • 4.1 Follows established quidelines for troubleshooting instrument, reagent or specimen problems
      1. Regulation Compliance
    • 5.1 Complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety
      1. People
    • 6.1 Participates in staff meetings, helps promote effective working relationships
      1. Customer Service
    • 7.1 Uses Patient/Family center values/Conducts all work activities with respect of the rights and wishes of patients, visitors and patients families
      1. Other Duties
    • 8.1 Monitor Copath interfaces for proper performance

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION

    Bachelor's Degree in biology and successful completion of an accredited Pathologist's Assistant program

    EXPERIENCE

    Three to six months job related experience to become familiar with a variety of procedures, techniques and equipment used in performing activities

    ACCOUNTABILITY

    Professional knowledge and high level of analytical ability to perform postmortem and tissue examinations interpret finding and determine data to be forwarded to pathologist. Knowledge of anatomic pathology computer system functions. Ability to conduct gross dissection procedures utilizing surgical instruments.
