Fairview is seeking an experienced Pathologists' Assistant for a temporary assignment from January 11, 2027, through July 16, 2027. This position is scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with no weekend, autopsy, or on-call responsibilities.
This role will be based at Fairview Clinics & Surgery Center (CSC). The CSC environment is characterized by high specimen volume and lower complexity case work, allowing the selected candidate to focus primarily on the gross examination and processing of routine surgical pathology specimens. As the sole Pathologists' Assistant at this location, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated success working independently and managing a fast-paced workload. Experience handling high-volume, low-complexity specimens is highly desirable, including specimens such as GI biopsies, skin specimens, breast biopsies, and prostate biopsies. The individual must also be comfortable following established workflows and detailed protocols, as certain specimens require initial processing at the CSC before being transferred to other locations for further evaluation.
Candidates with approximately five or more years of grossing experience are preferred, though this is not required. We are interested in learning about the types of surgical pathology specimens candidates have independently managed, as well as their experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS). Successful candidates will demonstrate reliability, professionalism, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care through the accurate handling and processing of every surgical pathology specimen. Dependability, including consistent attendance and the ability to work the full scheduled shift, is essential to success in this role.
The Pathologists' Assistant works under the supervision of a board-certified anatomic pathologist. Responsibilities include gross examination of surgical specimens, preparation of frozen sectioning and gross photography.
