Pathologists Assistant

Schedule: Full-Time
Shift: Monday Friday | 11:00 AM 7:00 PM
Job Summary
We are seeking a Pathologists' Assistant (PA) to join a pathology team in Coppell, TX. This position is responsible for the gross examination, dissection, and dictation of surgical pathology specimens, working independently under the direction of a Pathologist.
The ideal candidate will have formal Pathologists' Assistant training and strong knowledge of surgical pathology procedures, specimen handling, and laboratory safety. Pathologists' Assistant students nearing completion of an accredited training program are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Perform gross examination, dissection, and dictation of surgical pathology specimens.
- Submit appropriate tissue sections for histologic processing and examination.
- Prepare specimens and tissue for additional or specialized testing as required.
- Prepare tissue for testing such as lymphoma phenotyping, quantitative iron studies, and other ancillary studies.
- Photograph gross specimens when requested by the Pathologist.
- Ensure the grossing/cutting area remains properly organized and adequately supplied.
- Follow established procedures for specimen handling, processing, documentation, and storage.
- Review procedure manuals and remain current on procedural and technical changes.
- Participate in continuing education and review educational materials under Pathologist guidance.
- Follow all laboratory safety precautions and established pathology procedures.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and protect sensitive health information.
- Follow applicable regulatory, compliance, privacy, and security requirements.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Pathologists' Assistant studies or a related qualifying field required.
- Successful completion of a formal Pathologists' Assistant training program required.
- ASCP certification as a Pathologists' Assistant (PA) or equivalent certification required.
- Pathologists' Assistant students nearing completion of their training program are welcome to apply.
- Two years of Pathologists' Assistant experience preferred.
- Knowledge of surgical pathology, gross examination, tissue dissection, and specimen preparation.
- Ability to work independently while functioning under the direction of a Pathologist.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and accuracy in specimen documentation.
- Must maintain appropriate continuing education for certification and applicable licensure.
