Job Posting: Long-Term Substitute Transportation Mechanic
Position Summary
Onalaska School District is seeking a reliable and experienced Long-Term Substitute Transportation Mechanic to assist with the maintenance and repair of school district vehicles, including school buses. This is a year-round position working variable hours during the school year, with the potential for additional hours during the summer months.
Key Responsibilities
· Assist with routine inspections and preventive maintenance of school buses and district vehicles
· Perform minor repairs under the direction of the lead mechanic or Transportation Supervisor
· Maintain accurate maintenance and inspection records
· Ensure compliance with Washington State Patrol and OSPI safety regulations
· Monitor vehicle condition and report safety issues promptly
· Maintain a clean and organized work area
· Support vehicle preparation for state inspections
· Perform minor repairs as needed or as directed by the Transportation Supervisor
Qualifications
Required:
· High school diploma or GED
· Basic mechanical knowledge and experience working with vehicles
· Valid Washington State driver's license
· Ability to work independently and follow safety protocols
· Clear background check, driving record, and fingerprinting (required for school district employment)
· Experience working with diesel engines or large vehicle fleets
Preferred:
· Familiarity with Washington State Department of Transportation and WSP inspection standards
· ASE certification or technical training in vehicle repair
Work Schedule & Compensation
• Variable Hours During the School Year (schedule to be determined)
• Additional hours may be available during summer months
• Hourly wage: $24.37 + DOE
• Sick pay
