Job Summary

Albany State University invites applications for a Part-time Instructor of Sociology position, which is a key academic position that plays a major role in advancing the mission of the Department of Social Sciences at Albany State University. This is a non-tenure track part-time position open to all specializations. The position is responsible for delivering high quality instruction and completing course related administrative duties.

Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver lectures, prepare course materials, and facilitate learning experiences for the students in the department.

  • Courses may include a mix of face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online classes.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the subject matter.

  • Maintain accurate and timely records of students grades and attendance.

  • Follow established expectations and protocols for the department.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Sociology or a related discipline, or Masters Degree with 18 hours of Sociology courses at the graduate level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or ABD with an established defense date,

  • College level teaching experience.

  • Demonstrated commitment to working with and supporting diverse student populations.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of sociological theories, concepts, and research methods applicable to undergraduate instruction.

  • Knowledge of effective teaching practices for face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning environments.

  • Knowledge of student assessment, grading procedures, and higher education policies related to academic instruction.

Skills

  • Strong communication and presentation skills to effectively engage and instruct diverse student populations.

  • Skill in developing course materials, assessing student learning, and providing constructive feedback.

  • Strong organizational and technology skills, including proficiency with learning management systems and instructional software.

Abilities

  • Ability to create an inclusive, student-centered learning environment that supports student success.

  • Ability to manage multiple instructional responsibilities while maintaining accurate and timely academic records.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty and staff while adhering to departmental policies and academic standards.
