    Part Time Preschool Teacher – Jewett Park Community Center

    The Deerfield Park District's mission is to provide outstanding parks, services, facilities, and recreation programs that enrich lives, promote healthy living, and provide memorable experiences. To support our over 25 parks and facilities, we have a dedicated and diverse workforce of over 500 staff seasonally. We are an award-winning Park District with multiple distinctions of excellence.

    Do you love shaping a child's earliest learning experiences and starting your day surrounded by curiosity and laughter? We're looking for a warm, dependable, and creative team player to organize, set up, and instruct our children's curriculum as a Preschool Teacher in our Mini Navigator's room (2-year-old program). Above all, the safety and wellbeing of the children in our care is our highest priority, and you'll help ensure every child feels secure, supported, and nurtured while meeting our high service standards.

    Days & Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:00 am–11:30 am

    (Hours will be monitored and kept under 1,000 per year.)

    Reports To: Preschool Director

    Pay Rate:

    • $20–24 per hour, starting pay based on experience and seniority.

    Responsibilities:

    • Plans and executes preschool curriculum and sets up equipment and supplies for daily use.
    • Instructs and supervises participants, interacting with children in a variety of activities.
    • Maintains communication with participants and parents.
    • Observes behavior, assesses appropriateness, and applies behavior management techniques
    • Works on special park district events pertaining to Preschool programs and attends Preschool staff meetings whenever possible.
    • Provides a high quality of customer service in a professional manner that facilitates team building and exceptional service to members, residents, and guests.
    • Follows all Deerfield Park District policies, procedures, and guidelines, and maintains good safety awareness.
    • Represents the Deerfield Park District at all times professionally, courteously, and enthusiastically.

    Minimum Education and Experience Required:

    • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
    • Two or more years of early childhood work experience.
    • Appropriate certification to maintain DCFS certification for Preschool.
    • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills, coupled with strong communication skills, with the ability to represent the Deerfield Park District in a professional manner.
    • Must possess a genuine desire and ability to interact with children, parents, and people of all ages and temperaments.
    • We abide by the IL Park District Code in our hiring practices.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear, stand, and walk.
    • Frequently required to use hands and/or fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls.
    • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift children.
    • Requires close, distance, peripheral, and depth-perception vision, with the ability to adjust focus.
    • Must be able to remain calm under stress levels associated with constant public contact.

    Working Conditions:

    • Regularly exposed to indoor conditions associated with a preschool.
    • Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather at drop-off locations and playgrounds.

    Pay Range:

    • $20–24 per hour, starting pay based on experience and seniority.
