Part-Time Licensed Limited Permit Counselor January 23, 2026 Brooklyn Campus Counseling and Wellness

The Office of Counseling and Wellness at St. Josephs University seeks a qualified applicant for a part-time Licensed Limited Permit Counselor for the Brooklyn campus. The position requires 15-20 hours per week with no more than 999 hours worked for the year. The Licensed Limited Permit Counselor will provide direct psychological services to the University student population, including brief individual therapy sessions, but may also include group therapy, crisis intervention, outreach consultation, and educational workshops. This is a 9-month position, September - May, with flexibility in scheduling hours between Monday to Friday from 9AM - 5PM.

The Office of Counseling and Wellness staff primarily work from a cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, and solution-focused therapeutic orientation, while also incorporating experiential, holistic, and mindfulness-based approaches. Staff are encouraged and supported to engage in continued self-development. Duties and Responsibilities

• Assesses the psychological needs of students and develops an appropriate plan of intervention. • Conducts initial intake interviews and makes appropriate treatment plan referrals and recommendations. • Provides individual therapy and group therapy - type of group to be decided based on student needs and counselors areas of interest. • Provides brief solution-focused psychological services to students, in which the student is assisted in problem resolution, crisis intervention, assessment, planning, and implementation of their immediate and long-term clinical goals. • Provides crisis intervention for walk-in students. • Participates in weekly case conference seminars, training with counseling staff and trainees. • Serves as a member of the Counseling and Wellness team and works collaboratively with the Director of Counseling and Wellness. • Represents as a professional liaison of St. Josephs University when required. • Serves as liaison between outside agencies, legal authorities, and referral sources for student care. • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Counseling and Wellness.

Qualifications

• Required: Masters Degree from an accredited school in Mental Health Counseling or Social Work. • Licensed as a MHC-LP, LMHC, LCSW to practice in NY State. • Experience in providing individual psychotherapy. • Ability to utilize telehealth tools and computer applications. • Preferred: Experience in providing psychological services to University-age students. • Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral, and/or Solution-Focused Orientation.
