This is a part-time Truck Driver Training Instructor position in the Transportation Department at JWCC Workforce Development Center in Quincy, Illinois. JOB DESCRIPTION John Wood Community College is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Truck Driver Training Instructor to teach and develop the basic skills needed by an entry-level truck driver. KEY RESPONSIBILITIESProvide hands-on training to entry level commercial vehicle drivers on safe driving practices, vehicle operations, and industry regulations.Provide hands-on training on the driving range with backing, shifting, etc. as well as behind-the-wheel training in both city and highway environments.Ensure trainees comply with federal, state, and local laws regarding driving hours, weight limits, and safety standards.Observe and assess trainee driving skills, offering constructive feedback for improvement.Evaluate trainees' progress and determine when they are ready for independent driving or additional training.Maintain accurate records of each trainee's progress, performance, and training history.Complete required documentation related to safety and training compliance.Adapt training methods to accommodate different learning styles and skill levels to ensure each trainee is successful.Help trainees understand the importance of meeting delivery schedules while maintaining safe driving practices.Offer guidance, advice, and support to help trainees adjust to the demands of the job, including managing long hours, staying alert, and handling stressful situations.QUALIFICATIONS Education:High School Diploma/GED required,Licensed for three (3) consecutive years with a valid Class A CDL and no restrictionsExperience:Three years of experience in the trucking industry required,Teaching experience preferred but not required.Skills and Competencies:Clean driving record required,Ability to obtain DOT Medical Examiner Certificate and pass DOT drug screen.WORK SCHEDULE:Courses are normally offered between the hours of 7:00am-4:30pm, Tuesday-Thursday. Flexible scheduling available.
