SUMMARY OF POSITIONUnder the direction of the Fitness Manager, the Fitness Attendant is responsible for the general supervision of the fitness areas specifically for checking in members providing adult and youth orientations, short tours of fitness areas, assisting with general fitness related questions, monitoring participants as they work out, and general cleaning of the fitness center and equipment.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (Essential functions including the following and the Physical Requirements listed below): Acts as a representative of the Fairview Heights Recreation Complex and Fitness Center in the community and maintains a professional image Provides outstanding and results-driven customer service Acts with a sense of urgency and responds in a timely manner to complaints, questions, and inquiries from members and the public in regards to the Fitness Center Communicates regularly with Fitness Management, Instructors, and Personal Trainers Ensures Fitness Center rules, safety standards, and sanitation requirements are followed Assists in the emergency action plan implementation Provides instruction to members in the proper use of the facility equipment Monitors fitness room to ensure smooth flow of patrons through exercise circuits Performs routine daily maintenance tasks such as cleaning equipment, filing fitness cards, and minor repairs on facility equipment. Documents and reports all accidents and incidents in the Fitness Center Aids patrons in daily operation of equipment and answers questions concerning operation of equipment. Documents and reports all equipment malfunctions and safety hazards to the Fitness Manager Coordinates Fitness Center orientations for patrons with Fitness Manager and personal trainers Assists in the inventory and requisitioning of supplies and parts for the Fitness Center Maintains regular, timely attendance on an ongoing basis Attends trainings and meetings as required Assists in keeping an accurate inventory of supplies and equipment in the Fitness Center Administer first aid and emergency procedures as needed Other duties as assigned by Fitness Manager and/or his/her designee.BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in exercise physiology, kinesiology, recreation, health, or related field preferred One (1) year cumulative fitness experience as student athlete, fitness center attendant, or equivalent preferred Experience with fitness equipment usage procedures and maintenance plans CPR/First Aid/AED Certified, or the ability to become certified within one (1) month of hireKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED Ability to have a high degree of energy and have the endurance and physical capabilities of instructing daily physical fitness Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to generate, maintain, and demonstrate a friendly, enthusiastic, and positive attitude Ability to provide proper guidance and direction for fitness users, provide an effective orientation for fitness center users Ability to be trained on new techniques and jobs; function efficiently under stress related factors consistent with the position Knowledge of common office equipment, such as the use of a phone, printer, copy and fax machine, scanning equipment and software, and the ability to learn and adapt to new equipment Ability to organize, keep accurate records, and prioritize multiple tasks Ability to operate and adapt to various platforms of technology, such as an iPad, laptop, personal computer, Smart TVs, etc.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.The employee must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.WORKING CONDITIONSWhile performing the duties of this job, the position operates in a gym and in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines and standard gym equipment, like weights, weight machines, treadmills, stationary bikes, ellipticals, and other similar machines. The position is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and the noise level in the environment is occasionally loud. Extended workdays and varied hours are a frequent occurrence, as are weekends and holidays, to support the needs and demands of the Recreation Complex.
