DESCRIPTION

Mendocino College is currently accepting applications for part-time, Temporary Mental Health Counselors.

ASSIGNMENT/SALARY

Assignments are made on a part-time, hourly contract basis. A part-time faculty assignment may not exceed a total of 67% of an annual full-time assignment. Salary is determined by the total contract hours. Hourly contract rate is dependent on qualifications ($70.64 - $103.39). Compensation for assigned classes is paid over the duration of the semester.

Benefits: The College offers a Bronze level benefit plan at the cost of the employee.

Paid Time Off: Sick leave is earned based on teaching load percentage.

Retirement: This position may be eligible for CalSTRS Retirement

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The successful candidate will provide direct clinical mental health services that support student well-being, belonging, persistence, and academic success. Representative duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

DIRECT CLINICAL SERVICES:

• Provide individual and group psychotherapy, mental health assessment, and screening services to support student well-being, persistence, and academic success.
• Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and develop clinically appropriate treatment goals and interventions.
• Provide psychotherapy and therapeutic interventions to students experiencing emotional, psychological, behavioral, interpersonal, academic, and life challenges.
• Assist students in developing coping strategies, resilience, self-efficacy, and emotional wellness skills that support their educational and personal goals.
• Provide crisis assessment, intervention, safety planning, and referral services for students experiencing acute psychological distress.
• Deliver culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and equity-minded mental health services to a diverse student population.
• Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment that promotes student belonging and engagement.
• Refer students to campus resources, community behavioral health providers, and other support services as clinically indicated.
• May provide services at all District locations and through approved service delivery.
• May provide bilingual services to monolingual and limited English-speaking students.
• Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential clinical records in accordance with applicable legal, ethical, professional, District, state, and federal requirements.
• Utilize electronic health records and other approved technology systems to maintain documentation, manage caseloads, and support service delivery.
• Provide psychoeducation related to mental health, wellness, resilience, and help-seeking behaviors.
• Perform related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications for Counseling: Mental Health

Masters in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Clinical/Counseling Psychology; and

A current, valid license issued by the California Board of Psychology or the California Board of Behavioral Sciences;

OR

The minimum qualifications established by the California Board of Psychology or the California Board of Behavioral Sciences for licensed psychologists, clinical social workers, professional clinical counselors, or marriage and family therapists;

OR the equivalent

Notes:

• A doctorate in Psychology and licensure by the California Board of Psychology is deemed equivalent.
• A registrant or associate under the supervision of an eligible licensed psychotherapist employed by the California Community College system, as recognized by the Board of Psychology or Board of Behavioral Sciences, is an alternative qualification for this discipline.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Providing psychotherapy services to diverse student populations, including historically underrepresented, disproportionately impacted, and marginalized communities; culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices; and applicable laws, regulations, standards, and ethical principles governing the independent practice of psychotherapy and the delivery of behavioral health and wellness services.

ABILITY TO:

• Demonstrate cultural humility, equity-mindedness, and a commitment to fostering belonging while effectively serving students, faculty, and staff from diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic, disability, military, religious, sexual orientation, gender identity, and other backgrounds.
• Ability to conduct mental health screening, biopsychosocial assessment, risk assessment, case conceptualization, and treatment planning.
• Ability to provide crisis assessment, intervention, safety planning, consultation, and appropriate referral services.
• Ability to effectively manage a clinical caseload, prioritize competing demands, maintain accurate documentation, and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in utilizing electronic health records, case management systems, Microsoft Office applications, and other technology platforms to support clinical service delivery and documentation.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

The Dean or Full-Time Faculty in the discipline will review the application pool. Meeting the posted requirements does not guarantee an interview. A written performance exercise and/or presentation may be a part of the interview, and candidates may be invited to return for a second interview. All notifications will be via email.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT(Prior to beginning employment)

• In accordance with Federal Law all employees must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States;
• Must be fingerprinted through DOJ and FBI and have background clearance; and Must take a TB test (once hired and every four years thereafter).
