Part-Time Experienced Veterinary Assistant

This position is a part-time position for weekend hours only

It is Saturday evening when a family arrives with a dog who cannot stop limping. They are worried- their primary clinic is closed and they need someone who can turn a stressful moment into a clear next step. As a veterinary assistant at PriorityPet Urgent Care of Germantown, you help make that happen. Your calm restraint, careful observations, and reassuring communication give the doctor and technician team what they need to move quickly while helping a pet family feel supported from check-in through discharge.

PriorityPet fills the space between routine appointments and the emergency room, providing walk-in care for urgent, non-life-threatening needs when many primary practices are closed. Open seven days a week with evening and weekend hours, our Germantown hospital was designed around modern urgent care. You will work with in-house laboratory capabilities, digital radiology, ultrasound, and advanced surgical suites in a brand-new facility. Just as important, you will join a compassionate, collaborative veterinary team that shares information, jumps in for one another, and treats every pet as family. Clients describe the practice as a welcome resource for the community, and our team as attentive, timely, and compassionate.

This focused schedule can leave weekdays open for school, family, or other priorities. Here you will receive support from experienced doctors, skilled technicians, and fellow assistants, plus virtual and hands-on training that helps you master your role and prepare for your next move. • Welcome clients, gather complete medical histories, and listen for the details that help guide care.
• Safely restrain pets and support timely triage of incoming patients.
• Collect blood, urine, fecal, skin, and other samples, then assist with in-house analysis.
• Position patients and help capture quality digital radiographs; support ultrasound and other diagnostic workflows.
• Provide attentive nursing care for medical and hospitalized cases with varying levels of stability.
• Prepare and administer medications under the direction of the veterinary team.
• Set up procedures, prepare surgical areas and instruments, and assist during surgery.
• Support anesthesia preparation and monitoring according to your training and demonstrated competencies.
• Keep doctors, technicians, assistants, and pet families informed during fast-moving weekend shifts.

The working environment may include noise, odors, animal waste, bites, scratches, and exposure to potentially contagious diseases. You should be comfortable following safety protocols, communicating treatment plans with clients, and working closely with doctors, technicians, and other support staff.

We're looking for:

• An experienced veterinary assistant with at least two years in a professional animal-care setting.
• Reliable weekend availability and a consistent, punctual approach to scheduled shifts.
• A compassionate, calm teammate who can prioritize when several patients need attention.
• Confidence with safe, low-stress pet handling and proper restraint.
• Strong client communication skills and the judgment to explain next steps clearly.
• Experience collecting samples, processing laboratory tests, obtaining histories, or capturing radiographs; anesthesia monitoring is a plus.
• A curious self-starter who welcomes coaching and wants to expand their veterinary skill set.
• A vet assistant who notices what the team needs, speaks up with ideas, and is interested in future mentorship or leadership.

Pay Range: $17 - $20/hr depending on experience level
