JOB DESCRIPTION FOR ASSISTANT CIRCUIT COURT ADMINISTRATOR
Title: Part-Time Assistant Circuit Court Administrator
Department: Circuit Court Judges - Administration
Pay: $18.00 @ 20hrs./wk
CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY:
Assist the Circuit Court Administrator to provide strategic and operational leadership for the Circuit Court Judges to include case management, audit and assistance; management of fiscal and human resource functions; technology management; serving as an intergovernmental liaison; management of the jury system and jurors, in conjunction with the Circuit Court Clerk's Office; performing additional duties as required; and providing assistance and support to the judges. This position reports to and serves at the will of the Circuit Court judges.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND TYPICAL TASKS:
Ensure compliance with Constitutional and statutory requirements for court operations.
Coordinate with staff, judges, attorneys, clerks, and other agencies to accomplish case load goals including case flow management.
Communicate with court specialists, law clerks, and interns to ensure efficient day-to-day operations and docket management.
Assist with budget preparation and guiding the budget through government review process.
Assist with the human resource management of court staff. Coordinate the efficient delivery of services to the judges, litigants, and the public. Foster productive communication in the circuit court.
Maintain strong working relationships with judges, state attorneys, public defenders, the local bar, the Office of the Supreme Court, state agencies, the Circuit Court Clerk and Sheriff.
Assist with providing long-term, strategic and emergency planning, including collecting and analyzing statistical information critical to the judges and to the General Assembly in staffing and funding the court.
Coordinate and administer the scheduling of cases on the docket with the Commonwealth's Attorney, defense bar and Circuit Court Clerk to establish docketing procedures and daily dockets for criminal cases.
Coordinate with the Circuit Court Clerk's Office personnel in the procession of court cases to ensure compliance with court practices and the Code of Virginia, including assisting in the daily courtroom and judge assignment of cases.
Manage and organize information collected on district court scheduling orders in order to docket criminal jury trials and cases in a manner that promotes balanced dockets and timely scheduling and disposition of cases.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Judge, presiding judges, or Circuit Court Administrator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of Associates Degree + Two (2) years of experience in the legal or court Justice System:
or
Five (5) years of legal/court experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor''s in Public Administration, or related field. Experience managing court case flow, calendars, and dockets; experience with Virginia's Case Management System (CMS); and/or experience in budget management.
