SCHEDULE Hours not to exceed 800 hours in a service year per employee
\t\t\t\t\tSunday and Monday, and every other Saturday; Start time 7:00 a.m.

DUTIES / JOB DESCRIPTION
\t\t\t\t\tThis is an at-will exempt intermittent position which can be terminated at any time without cause.
\t\t\t\t\tA part-time Aquarist is part of the LA Zoo's Life Support Systems (LSS) Team. Duties include,
\t\t\t\t\tbut are not limited to:
\t\t\t\t\t• assisting with the operation of LSS throughout the zoo;
\t\t\t\t\t• equipment maintenance and repair;
\t\t\t\t\t• basic water quality testing;
\t\t\t\t\t• understand water chemistry reports and their relationship to life support;
\t\t\t\t\t• work closely with Animal Care staff and Construction staff;
\t\t\t\t\t• perform inspections;
\t\t\t\t\t• preventative maintenance tasks;
\t\t\t\t\t• cleaning and repair of all Life Support equipment; and
\t\t\t\t\t• other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS
\t\t\t\t\t• Must have a background in caring for exotic reptiles/amphibians/fish and invertebrates,
\t\t\t\t\tand a willingness to work in cramped hot spaces with a team;
\t\t\t\t\t• Bachelor\s degree in biological sciences is preferred;
\t\t\t\t\t• Ability to move/lift 75 pounds;
\t\t\t\t\t• Ability to climb ladders and work in tight areas;
\t\t\t\t\t• Ability to ride a bicycle preferred;
\t\t\t\t\t• Ability to work indoor and outdoor in inclement weather
\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
\t\t\t\t\t• Knowledge of pumps (centrifugal and peristaltic), filters (sand, bead, drum), UV sterilizers,
\t\t\t\t\tozone generators, and automated control systems; water quality in aquariums; PVC
\t\t\t\t\tplumbing; and knowledge and ability to use power tools.
\t\t\t\t\tLicenses and Certifications Preferred:
\t\t\t\t\t• Open Water SCUBA certification from an internationally recognized training association
\t\t\t\t\t• Level 1 Aquatic Animal Life Support Operators (AALSO)certification
\t\t\t\t\t
