Part-Time Afternoon Teacher

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM–6:00 PM

Position Summary
A Part-Time Afternoon Teacher works as a valued member of the classroom team to provide a safe, nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for children during the afternoon hours. This position works collaboratively with the classroom Co-Teachers to support daily routines, supervision, learning experiences, transitions, and classroom responsibilities.


The Afternoon Teacher is an important part of ensuring that children continue to receive consistent, loving, and high-quality care throughout the afternoon.


Teaching & Classroom Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with the classroom Co-Teachers to support the daily classroom schedule and routines.
  • Provide active supervision and attentive care for all children.
  • Support developmentally appropriate learning activities, play, and classroom experiences.
  • Assist with afternoon transitions, snacks/meals, nap/rest time, toileting, diapering, and outdoor activities as needed.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Build positive and nurturing relationships with children.
  • Support children's individual needs and encourage independence, social development, and positive behavior.
  • Assist with classroom cleanup, organization, and preparation for the following day.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with classroom teachers, administration, children, and families.
  • Work as a collaborative member of the classroom team and share responsibility for maintaining a positive classroom environment.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure the safety, health, and well-being of every child through active supervision.
  • Follow all school policies and procedures, including health, safety, sanitation, and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with state licensing regulations, Quality Assurance (QA) expectations, and Texas Rising Star (TRS) standards.
  • Maintain appropriate classroom ratios and supervision at all times.
  • Complete required documentation and classroom responsibilities accurately and on time.
Professional Expectations
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
  • Arrive prepared and on time each day.
  • Work cooperatively with classroom Co-Teachers and other staff members.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with coworkers and administration.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when discussing children and families.
  • Attend required training and professional development opportunities.
  • Be willing to assist in other classrooms or areas of the school when needed.
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive school culture and uphold the school's commitment to excellence in early childhood education.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous childcare experience preferred but not required.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Must meet all applicable state licensing requirements.
  • A genuine love for working with young children and a desire to make a positive impact each day.
Physical Requirements
  • Lift and carry children up to and over 50 pounds.
  • Frequently bend, kneel, squat, sit on the floor, and stand for extended periods.
  • Participate in indoor and outdoor activities in various weather conditions.
