About the Position

Lane County Community Justice & Rehabilitation Services is seeking Parole & Probation Officers to supervise adults on community supervision while supporting successful behavior change and community safety.

Parole & Probation Officers manage an assigned caseload, assess risk and individual needs, monitor compliance with conditions of supervision, conduct office and community contacts, investigate violations, prepare reports, and work closely with courts, law enforcement, treatment providers, and community partners. Officers also connect individuals with resources such as behavioral health and substance use treatment, housing, employment, and other services that can support long-term stability.

This role requires sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to balance accountability with opportunities for positive change. We are looking for professionals who can build effective working relationships, respond calmly in challenging situations, make thoughtful decisions, and contribute to a team committed to reducing risk and improving outcomes for individuals and the community.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm. Shifts may vary based on department need.

QUALIFICATIONS

Parole/Probation Officer 1 Training & Experience:

  • Equivalent to the completion of a bachelors degree in behavioral science, criminal justice, or a related field.
  • At least one year of responsible experience providing services to individuals in criminal justice, counseling, social services, or a related field. One year of this experience must have been in corrections or law enforcement.

Parole/Probation Officer 2 Training & Experience:

  • In addition to the qualifications for Parole/Probation Officer 1: Equivalent to the completion of a bachelors degree in behavioral science, criminal justice, or a related field.
  • Two years of responsible experience providing services to individuals in criminal justice, counseling, social services, or a related field. One year of this experience must have been in corrections or law enforcement.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that will demonstrate the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Certification and License Requirements

  • Possession of a current Oregon drivers license at the time of appointment is required.
  • Candidates for Parole & Probation Officer 1 must successfully apply for and be issued Parole & Probation certification with the Oregon Board on Public Safety Standards and Training within one year of appointment.
  • Candidates for Parole/Probation Officer 2 must possess this certification at the time of appointment.

Special Requirements:

  • Every applicant for a position of Parole/Probation Officer with Lane County Parole and Probation will be required to pass a physicians medical examination (as required by the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training) which will include required drug screening tests, a thorough background investigation, and a psychological examination.
  • A new employee will be required to attend the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training Academy in Salem, Oregon, and must abide by the rules and regulations of the Academy and successfully pass the Academy training program.
  • The applicant is required to submit detailed and accurate information to enable a thorough background investigation in a timely manner. The purpose of the background investigation is to assist in determining the applicants potential suitability to ably, capably and responsibly perform the duties of a Parole/Probation Officer. Successful applicants hired shall serve a probationary period subject to termination without cause.

Health insurance coverage becomes effective the first of the month following your first 30-days as an eligible employee.

If you enroll in the HDHP the County will contribute to your HSA:

For eligible members of unions LCPOA, 626, Admin Pro, and AFSCME Physicians $1,700 for individual coverage and $3,400 for family coverage.

For eligible members of unions AFSCME General, AFSCME Nurses, FOPPO, PAA, and non-represented employees $1,600 for individual coverage and $3,200 for family coverage. Those who complete the requirements to receive the Live Well Credit by November 30, 2026, will receive an additional contribution of $400 individual or $800 family, funded in 2027.
