The Parks Maintenance Worker performs responsible semiskilled manual work in a variety of construction, repair and maintenance assignments involving the use of specialized tools and small equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.

This position will be responsible for working at least one weekend day per week as their normal schedule.

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks

Maintaining and repairing parks, public grounds, operating a variety of equipment, mowers and trucks.

  • Mows parks, public grounds and rights-of-way.
  • Plants, maintains and trims plants and trees.
  • Maintains athletic fields and facilities.
  • Cleans and maintains park facilities and equipment.
  • Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.
  • Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.
  • Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment used in the performance of tasks.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

Required Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.

Possession of valid Drivers License required.

The salary posted is the full salary range for this position. The starting salary is expected to be in the range of $32,893.65 - $42,761.74 depending on qualifications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Some knowledge of the maintenance, repair and manual tasks of the area assigned; some knowledge in the use of common and specialized hand and power tools required in the work; some knowledge of the safe use and operation and preventive maintenance of mechanical equipment required in the work; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
