Definition
Under general supervision, is responsible for assisting in the management of maintenance activities for the City's parks, athletic facilities and public properties; performs related duties as required.

Assists in the management of several maintenance crews within an assigned area of the City engaged in cutting grass, removing refuse, maintaining playgrounds and ball parks, and other related daily maintenance activities;
Arranges work schedules and vacation schedules; recommends personnel for appointments to vacant positions; evaluates performance of personnel by developing work standards, recommending disciplinary action if necessary and completing performance appraisals;
Assists in the management of various recreation and park field construction and equipment installation and maintenance including ball diamonds, soccer and sports fields, docking and waterfront facilities, playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts and other athletic equipment and facilities;
Explains and interprets City rules and departmental policies and procedures to staff;
Oversees the coordination, planning, and delivery of citizen volunteer projects and special event support services;
Responds to public and private inquiries concerning parks, maintenance, encroachments, dumping and other related concerns;
Procures necessary equipment, tools and supplies required by maintenance staff;
Assists in the parks maintenance budgeting process; monitors and ensures expenditures conform to budget;
Oversees and ensures that the proper documentation and paperwork is submitted by staff; prepares paperwork as required;
Investigates reports of damage to City park property and facilities; schedules repairs and ensures appropriate billing of repairs;
Ensures subordinate personnel receive safety training and are in compliance with safety policies and procedures;
Inspects the progress of projects in order to assure that assignments are completed properly and in a timely manner;
May serve as the Parks Maintenance Manager in his/her absence.
Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years of experience supervising parks maintenance activities.
Possession of a valid driver's license.

The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create a NEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list for this classification. The examination process will consist of a computerized exam weighted 100% covering Planning and Organizing, Supervision, Reading Comprehension, Problem Sensitivity, Parks Maintenance and Management, Safety, Map Reading, and 2019/2021 Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
The exam is expected to be administered in late July - early August 2026. Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.
All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidates name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
