Description

This position supervises the daily operation of a maintenance crew in parks maintenance, construction and related work.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIALDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervisory Responsibilities:Leads a crew of 5-8 semi-skilled workers and 1-5 community service workers or juveniles performing mowing, trimming, maintenance and various construction activities within the park system and other city property.Plans and assigns equipment and personnel.Assists in screening and selecting new hires, evaluating employees' performance and counseling staff.
  • Maintenance/Construction Responsibilities:Participates with crew members in the daily operations.Inspects vehicles, tractors, front mount mowers, push mowers, weedeaters, etc. each day as they are assigned to a crew.Reads and interprets simple blueprints, sketches and diagrams which may be necessary to perform construction or maintenance activity. Operates gas powered equipment, heavy equipment, power tools and other small tools.
  • Daily Site Inspections:Performs on-site inspections of maintenance crew activities to monitor progress, proper procedures and safety practices.
  • Training:Trains crew members in proper use, set-up and maintenance of a variety of fuel powered equipment and power tools.
  • Record Keeping:Records and maintains personnel daily time logs.Maintains various man-hours and production reports as required.
  • Communicates with other employees and contractors in person and by two-way radio clearly and in a polite manner.Must also communicate in a clear and polite manner in person with citizens at the job site.
  • Performs minor field repair of equipment when possible to avert down time of machinery.
  • Events Support - Provides support for department special events before, during and after the event in areas and for functions relative to essential job duties and/or as otherwise assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of theknowledge, skill, and or ability required.

EDUCATIONANDEXPERIENCE

  • High school, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation.
  • Three (3) years related experience and/or training.
  • Twelve (12) to eighteen (18) months related management experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

REQUIREDCERTIFICATES,LICENSES,REGISTRATIONS

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Operators Driver's License with an acceptable driving record (Sports Turf Crew Only).
  • Must possess a Commercial Learners Permit (CLP) by the first day of employment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class "A" Commercial Drivers License with air brake certification and an acceptable driving record within six months of employment. (Projects Crews Only)
  • Must successfully pass Basic Pesticide Core Exam within one year of employment/promotion date (Beautification and Sports Turf Crews Only).

Direct deposit automatically deposits your net pay each pay period to your checking or savings account at your own financial institution. Direct deposit is a condition of employment for a person hired by the City.

All contributions to the 401a Defined contribution plan are pre-tax and earnings grow tax-deferred. The City contributes 8% and employees contribute 3%. City contributions are 100% vested after one year of employment. You will be enrolled automatically and should take time to review your investment options at your earliest convenience.

Training Programs

The City is committed to provide training programs for all departments and all positions. Risk Management conducts classes in Defensive Driving, Safety, and Insurance. With rare exceptions, classes are offered during working hours, and are open to all eligible employees.
