General Statement of Duties

Performs a variety of clerical, general office duties, and information dissemination services for employees and visitors; performs directly related work as required.

This is a permanent 3/4 time position throughout the year. The schedule will approximately be 30 hours per week, 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM (M-F) and located at theCity of Des Moines Reichardt Community Recreation Center.

The principal function of an employee in this class is to serve as a central communication point within the Parks and Recreation Department and to provide service to customers both in person, via the telephone or any other electronic means as well as providing clerical and administrative support functions to office personnel. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all customers, City employees, business and community organizations and the public. Employee's may be required to work on holidays, weekends, and during hours other than traditional business hours.

Acceptable Experience and Training

  • Graduation from High School or possession of a GED; and
  • At least one year experience working with standard and customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks; and
  • Some experience in general office and customer service operations; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Required Special Qualifications

  • Candidates for positions in this class must pass a post-employment offer physical examination and drug screen.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • A minimum typing speed of 40 wpm.
