Job Summary
Under direct supervision this position performs entry-level maintenance and facility support work for zoo buildings grounds and animal enclosures. The Zoo Maintenance I assists with repairs cleaning and upkeep to ensure safe and sanitary conditions.
Typical Duties
Basic Maintenance & Repair Assists with maintenance and repair of zoo facilities enclosures and infrastructure Performs basic work in carpentry plumbing and general repairs Assists higher-level staff with maintenance projects
Cleaning & Sanitation Support Cleans and maintains buildings enclosures and work areas Assists with waste removal and sanitation tasks Maintains safe and clean environments for animals and staff
Grounds & Facility Upkeep Assists with upkeep of grounds pathways and public areas Performs general labor tasks to support operations
Equipment & Tool Use Uses basic tools and equipment safely Assists with maintenance and care of tools and equipment
Operational Support Supports zoo staff with assigned tasks and operational needs Follows direction from supervisors and higher-level staff
Safety Practices Follows established safety procedures when working around animals and equipment Uses protective equipment and maintains awareness of hazards
Training & Development Participates in training related to maintenance and safety procedures Develops skills necessary for advancement to Zoo Maintenance II
Other Duties Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Licenses & Certifications Valid New Mexico Class D drivers license
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of Basic maintenance and repair techniques Safety practices and procedures Cleaning and sanitation methods
Skills in Using basic tools and equipment Performing manual labor tasks Following instructions and procedures
Abilities to Work under supervision Perform physically demanding work Maintain safe and sanitary conditions Learn maintenance skills and procedures
Physical Requirements
Work involves standing walking lifting and performing manual labor tasks. Position requires the ability to perform physically demanding work assist with maintenance and sanitation activities and safely work in environments involving animals and equipment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to animals weather and operational hazards. Position is safety sensitive and subject to drug testing.
