Parent coordinators - affiliated with summer 2026 partner schools Milwaukee College Prep and Notre Dame School of Milwaukee - help supervise children enrolled in the Tragil Wade-Johnson Summer Reading Program at the Hartman Literacy and Learning Center. Parent Coordinators must be available all four weeks of the program from Monday, June 29, 2026 through Friday, July 24, 2026. (There is no program on Friday, July 3, 2026.) Hours will be approximately 8:00am - 1:30pm but may vary based on program needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communicate with partner school and parents of children about their child's behavior on the bus and at Marquette.
  • Communicate regularly with Hartman Center Program Coordinator and Director about child behavior, attendance, and other issues/concerns that arise throughout the duration of the Tragil Wade-Johnson Summer Reading Program.
  • Parent coordinators will keep an attendance record for their school and communicate child absences with the Program Coordinator for the Hartman Center.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Arrive at partner school at or before 8:00am to supervise children participating in the summer program, take attendance, and supervise loading onto school bus for transportation to Hartman Center.
  • During transportation to and from the program from the partner school, assist the driver in maintaining safe behavior on bus. All children must remain seated, no more than three children to a seat, and noise level kept at a comfortable level.
  • Supervise children in the Hartman Center as needed during: bathroom breaks, walking to/from bus, recess, and when children are feeling ill or need to be redirected for learning.
  • Assist with administration of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) through counting meals when delivered to the Hartman Center and when served to children at morning snack time and lunch.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Must be able to pass a background check as the position works with minors.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport with children and parents.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience working with and supervising elementary-aged children.
  • Candidates must be known to and approved by administration at the designated partner school.
  • A background check is required for this position.
