The lifeguard provides supervision and safety monitoring for students during aquatic activities as part of the physical education program. This position also assists physical education (PE) teachers with instructional support and classroom management.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Monitor the pool area at all times to ensure student safety during swimming and water-based physical education activities.
- Enforce all pool safety rules and respond appropriately to emergencies, including performing water rescues and first aid/CPR when necessary.
- Assist PE teachers with instructional activities, such as demonstrating swimming techniques, organizing equipment, and providing student supervision during non-swimming activities.
- Support classroom and behavior management by reinforcing teacher expectations for student conduct.
- Prepare, set up, and store PE and aquatic equipment as directed by PE staff.
- Assist with attendance and other basic record-keeping tasks as requested.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment for all students.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements:
- Work takes place primarily in a school pool environment with occasional gym or outdoor PE activities.
- Must be able to remain alert and attentive for extended periods and respond quickly in emergency situations.
- May involve moderate physical activity, including standing, swimming, lifting equipment, and assisting students as needed.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, via phone, and through electronic means.
