Legacy Charter School is seeking a passionate and student-centered Diverse Learner Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. We are looking for an educator who is committed to providing scholars with IEPs rigorous academic experiences that prepare them for success with grade-level and above-grade-level content through consistent, joyful, social-emotional, and cognitive learning experiences. Legacy Charter School is a high-performing public charter school serving approximately 468 scholars in Kindergarten through 8th grade in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood. Position SummaryThe Paraprofessional works closely with classroom teachers and special education staff to support scholars' academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and developmental needs. This position plays a critical role in helping scholars access instruction, meet IEP goals, and thrive within inclusive classroom environments.This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with students, collaborating with educators, and contributing to a positive, mission-driven school culture. What You'll DoAs a Paraprofessional, you will: - Support the inclusion of scholars with special needs in classroom activities to the maximum extent possible
- Assist scholars with academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and organizational needs
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers and special education teachers to implement instructional strategies and accommodations
- Assist teachers and scholars with daily classroom activities and routines
- Demonstrate knowledge of scholars' educational, medical, physical, sensory, speech/language, and social-emotional needs
- Utilize behavior management strategies under the guidance of classroom and special education teachers
- Maintain flexibility while adhering to schedules and adjusting support based on scholar needs
- Support implementation of IEP accommodations, modifications, and services
- Proactively communicate observations, suggestions, and strategies to support scholar success
- Maintain accurate documentation as required by scholars' IEPs and school procedures
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school-wide initiatives
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative professional learning community
- Operate classroom technology, computers, assistive technology devices, and instructional equipment as needed
- Attend school-wide meetings and actively participate on committees and teams as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of scholar achievement and school success

Qualifications Candidates must possess one of the following: - Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
- Illinois Substitute Teacher License
- Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) with Paraprofessional Endorsement
To obtain an ELS with Paraprofessional Endorsement, candidates must meet one of the following requirements: - Associate's Degree
- Completion of an ISBE-approved Paraprofessional Training Program
- Passing score of 460 or higher on the ETS ParaPro Assessment
- Passing score on the applicable ACT WorkKeys Assessments
Additional Qualifications- Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal directions
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, families, and scholars
- Commitment to supporting scholars with diverse learning needs
- Prior experience working with children or students in an educational setting preferred
