General Summary:
Under direction of the Staff Nurse (RN) and according to established policies and procedures, performs patient care activities to assist health care providers in performing various technical and clerical procedures in the patient care area. The paramedic assists with the activities of the nursing staff, the patient, the physician, other hospital departments, and visitors.
Education, Licensure, Registration and Experience:
High School graduate or equivalent required.
EMT-P Certification required.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.
Basic computer knowledge is preferred.
CPR certification required. BLS is expected at renewal.
2 Years of Paramedic experience preferred.
Essential Functions:
Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide patient care under the direct supervision of the RN.
Accurately obtain and record patient specific data.
Utilizes service recovery techniques when appropriate and escalates patient/visitor issues when necessary.
Demonstrates safety while lifting, transferring, transporting, and discharging patients.
IV establishment and maintenance.
Demonstrates competency in device usage.
Demonstrates competency in the skills of point of care testing.
Completes tasks delegated by the RN.
Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intra- departmentally to facilitate the department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
Assists POCT in completing required paperwork and documentation prior to the end of every shift.
Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development.
Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the emergency department, as define in the scope of service, to assure that the unique nature of the client is addressed.

Standards of Employment:
Attends all mandatory education programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety and regulatory compliance.
Appearance is professional, neat, clean, and appropriate for the work environment. Wears proper photo identification badge while on duty.
Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times, as observed by peers and management.
Attends monthly staff meetings and participates in monthly rounding process with manager to assure effective and timely two-way communications.
Participates in and completes required department specific education and training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to department safety and specific job-related hazards.
Follows safety and security policies including exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
