DescriptionParalegal Job DescriptionUnder the supervision of a Division of Social Services attorney the paralegal is expected to perform the following duties and responsibilitiesAssist the Divisions Fair Hearing Liaison person in preparing for administrative appeals by clients Fair Hearings when the Division denies or terminates a client from a welfare program such as Medicaid Food Stamps SNAP or any housing program. The Liaison represents the Division in such hearings.Acting as backup to the Fair Hearing Liaison and providing Division representation at Fair Hearings in absence of the Liaison.Assist the Divisions Fraud Unit in preparing cases for referral to the County Prosecutors Office for criminal prosecution.Assist the Divisions Child Support Unit in preparing cases for the Divisions attorney to take to Family court in child support matters. Provide all clerical and administrative duties and support for the attorney and the legal unitResearch laws rules and regulationsInvestigate facts communicating with the court other attorneys andor their law firms as well as agency staff and clientsPrepare documents for the attorney for use in briefs pleadings appeals collection of civil liens and child support judgmentsAssist in other legal related duties as directed by the attorney.Required SkillsWrite clearly and concisely as well as edit others writingBasic understanding of computer systems and software as well as the ability to learn and navigate new databases.Detail-oriented and be able to capture all points and concepts in a documentManage time effectively and multi-taskStrong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize to ensure deadlines are metStrong communication skillsPlease be advised all Monmouth County positions are on site.
