Role
This role will support day to day safety, hourly workforce leadership, and operations of the Paper Machine 7&8 and Blade Coater Departments. The individual in this role will work within the operations team to continuously improve health and safety performance, environmental compliance, production, quality metrics, and operating cost. These activities will require leading people, processes and equipment.
The scope of the PM7&8 and BCTR Shift Supervisor will include the Paper Machine No.7, Paper Machine No.8, Blade Coater, Blade Coating Prep, Super Calenders, and BCTR Winders. Additional responsibilities on the off shifts include the No.7 Capper, Core Cutting, Rewinders, New Mill loading docks. .
Role Expectations
Essential Duties and Specific Responsibilities
Safety:
Ensures and is accountable for personal compliance with Plant safety and Departmental safety rules
Enforces and is accountable for shift personnel compliance with Plant safety and Departmental safety rules
Completes necessary reporting for all safety incidents and injuries
Environmental:
Ensures personal compliance with ISO 14001 Environmental procedures and Process Safety Management procedures
Enforces shift personnel compliance with ISO 14001 Environmental procedures and Process Safety Management procedures
Completes necessary reporting for near miss incidents, public complaints, and environmental incidents
Production Control / Quality:
Supervises personnel and operations.
Assists employees in solving problems and directs operating parameter adjustments to meet established specifications.
Recommends improvements to systems, processes, and procedures to improve production
Communicates changes in production to personnel
Records production deviations from standard levels with explanations
Records equipment downtime with explanations
Coordinates efforts with other departmental shift supervisors
Maintenance:
Inspects equipment with shift personnel and writes work orders for equipment repair
Coordinates equipment repair with Operations Superintendent, Maintenance personnel, and shift personnel
Calls in Maintenance personnel on off shifts to repair equipment
Assist, Develop, Coordinate with Operator Basic Care
Personnel:
Fills personnel vacancies in order to maintain operations
Performs necessary Kronos approvals
Prepares absentee, time, and other reports relating to employees as required
Maintain good employee relations
Manage other duties and responsibilities as may arise during shift
Coordinate Employee Annual Training
Make up, issue, and maintain Monthly work schedule for Pulpmill and Utilities Hourly employees, in accordance with the CBA and side agreements.
Manage 6S projects
Assist with training of employee's in new positions.

Lock/Out Tag out policy and procedures
Complete thorough shift turnover and other shift reporting as required
Requirements
Education - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, Pulp and Paper Sciences or High School Diploma/GED and 2 years of equivalent job experience.
Competencies
Ability to apply mathematical concepts and operations.
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
Strong communication skills needed both internally and externally at senior-management levels. Provides expertise to teams, both internally and externally.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from operators, maintenance, managers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to write technical documents and reports in prescribed style and format.
Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or regulatory agencies.
Troubleshoot problems to resolution.
Computer Skills
MS Office Suite proficiency
SAP familiarity a plus
Work Environment -
Varies from office setting to loud, hot & humid manufacturing environment both indoor and outdoor. Role requires the ability to travel throughout the facility while using stairs, ladders, elevated platforms, and elevators.
24/7 work schedule with rotating shifts.
