Summary

Colville School District is now accepting applications for a part-time Custodian (260 days a year, 5 hours per day, 0.63 FTE). The regular work schedule is 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., including one hour at the Colville Fish Hatchery (Skills Center), serving both the Aster building and Skills Center.

Under the direction of the building Principal and Aster Head Custodian, this position is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure a safe, clean, and orderly environment for students and staff. The custodians primary objective will be to uphold the cleanliness and organization of the physical premises, ensuring that the school building and the Skills Center are consistently prepared for optimal educational activities.

Duties include interior and exterior cleaning, as well as regular building maintenance to ensure the facilities remain safe and in excellent operating condition, aligning with the districts high standards for safety, health, and cleanliness. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, using appropriate cleaning tools, equipment, chemicals, and practices to maintain both the interior and exterior of the school building and Skills Center.

Essential Duties

  • Work as a positive and collaborative member of the Custodial Staff to foster the primary cleaning and maintenance goals of the Colville School District and the Custodial Department.

  • Ensure daily cleaning of the following areas: classrooms, restrooms, drinking fountains, hallways, entrances, windows, public gathering places, and other areas as necessary.

  • Use power equipment and hand tools such as a broom, mop, squeegee, buffer, polisher, and vacuum as required for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, and furniture.

  • Help with set-up, cleanup, and breakdown of lunchrooms, athletic events, community functions, etc.

  • Attend custodial meetings and serves on the building safety committee.

  • Be available to work special events (e.g., athletic events) by mutual agreement with supervisor, as these may require shift adjustments, overtime beyond normal working hours, and/or occasional flexible scheduling.

  • Maintain building security at all times.

  • Maintain equipment.

  • Perform minor maintenance tasks requiring basic knowledge of mechanics, plumbing, carpentry, electrical practices, and grounds/turf management.

  • Maintain custodial closets, offices, and storage areas, keeping them cleaned, organized, and well stocked.

  • May occasionally perform snow removal.

  • Perform minor maintenance as needed. The list may include, but is not limited to, the following examples: replacing light bulbs, repairing desks and chairs, painting, etc.

  • Routinely check building, grounds, and equipment to ensure proper maintenance and safety and inform the Principal, the building Head Custodian and/or Facilities Director of deficiencies.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or designee.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have skills, knowledge, and abilities pertaining to principles, procedures, and methods used in general building custodial/cleaning activities and minor maintenance activities, along with knowledge of cleaning tools, implements, chemicals, and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote positive and productive working relations with custodial workers, maintenance personnel, building staff, students, and the public.
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure all areas of responsibility are maintained and cleaned to the district standards.
  • Demonstrated ownership, organizational abilities, and ability to work well independently.
  • Ability to deal with difficult, stressful people and situations in a positive manner.
  • Must possess general knowledge of computers, carpentry, painting, and landscaping.
  • Ability to perform basic reading, writing, and arithmetic, and follow written and oral communications.
  • Must be in good physical health, capable of standing and walking without restrictions, continuously carrying 0-24 pounds and lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds.
  • Must have a pleasant, cooperative personality to communicate and work well with students, staff, and the community.
  • Must be willing to acquire specialized training for a thorough understanding of installed systems.
  • A favorable report of a state and national fingerprinting background check is mandatory.
