Job Title: Senior Palo Alto Firewall Engineer
Location: Hybrid Richmond, VA
Contract Type: Long-term contract with potential to convert to full-time
Certifications: PCNSE / PCNSA would be preferred but not required.

This role requires deep expertise with Palo Alto firewalls and Panorama, along with the ability to create, optimize, and troubleshoot complex security policies in a large, distributed environment. The ideal candidate is a proactive engineer who can balance hands on technical work with strategic input on security architecture and best practices.
Required Skills & Experience
- Extensive hands-on experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls (physical and virtual appliances)
- Strong proficiency with Panorama for centralized management, templates, device groups, and policy deployment
- Senior-level experience creating, modifying, and optimizing firewall rules, NAT policies, security profiles, and advanced threat prevention configurations
- Deep understanding of network protocols, routing, segmentation, and secure network design
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale firewall environments with high availability and redundancy
- Ability to troubleshoot complex connectivity and security issues across multiple network layers
- Familiarity with change management processes, documentation standards, and compliance requirements
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with security, network, and application teams
Primary Responsibilities
- Design, create, and maintain security rules and policies across Palo Alto firewalls to support business and security requirements
- Configure, deploy, and manage firewalls including interfaces, zones, routing, NAT, VPNs, and security profiles
- Administer and support Panorama, including templates, device groups, centralized logging
