Position Summary Spray surfaces of cylinders, ladders, and manufactured products with protective material. Duties & Responsibilities - Sprays surfaces of machines and manufactured products with protective material such as paint, using spray gun.
- Cleans grease and dirt from products using materials such as lacquer thinner, turpentine, soap and water.
- Applies masking tape over parts and areas that are not to be coated.
- Fills cavities and dents with putty to attain smooth surface.
- Selects and mixes coating liquid to produce desired color according to specifications, using paddle or mechanical mixer.
- Pours coating liquid into spray container and connects gun to air hose, using wrenches.
- Turns sprayer valves and nozzle to regulate width and pressure of spray according to knowledge of painting technique.
- Pulls trigger and directs spray onto work surface to apply prime or finish coat.
- Coats areas inaccessible to hand sprayer, using brush.
- Cleans spraying equipment and brushes with solvent. Replaces screens and filters.
- May use acid, wire brush, or steel wool to remove rust from metal.
- Sets up and operates painting and drying units
- Places or racks work pieces on rack.
- Pushes racks in and out of paint booth.
- Turns valve to regulate water shield spray.
- Starts pumps to mix chemicals to mixture.
- Screws specified nozzles into spray guns and positions nozzles to direct spray onto work piece.
- Determines flow and viscosity of paints and quality of coating visually or by use of viscometer.
- Transfers finished pieces to appropriate departments
- Spot sprays or brushes paint to cover scratches, chips, or repairs in painted finish of items, able to blend paint.
- Cleans and prepares surface for painting, using DX330 Wax and Grease Remover/steel acid/soap.
- Applies thin, even coat of paint to blend in spots and eliminate halo around repair.
- Paint chipped spots with brush.
- Compares color of paint supply with color chart and work piece and remixes it to match standard colors.
- Perform maintenance on machines and paint booth.
- Work in a safe manner and follow all safety rules.
- Must be able to follow proper paint processes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience, Education & Physical Requirements EXPERIENCE: - 1-2 Years working in a manufacturing environment.
- Prior automobile painting experience helpful.
PREFERRED EDUCATION: - High School Graduate or equivalent
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: - Must be able to stand and walk 90% of the time
- Must be able to lift/move 75 lbs. on an occasional basis
- Must be able to push/move 75 lbs.
- Must be able climb onto trucks and touch-up paint 15% of the time.
- Must be able to adorn in protective paint clothing, i.e. paint suit and gloves
- Must be able to pass respirator test and wear respirator

WORKING CONDITIONS This position works in an office environment and has access to all welfare facilities. It is a quiet environment that is temperature controlled, ventilated, and well-lit. Working Conditions will include a desk space where most of the shift will be spent, and it provides open space to work in. This office space is routinely cleaned by an outside cleaning service. PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position requires sitting for an extended period of time with minimal standing or walking. During shifts, the use of feet, hands, and fingers may exceed 60 minutes, while the use of knees, legs, back, shoulders, and arms may reach a max of 15 minutes. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus, and good depth perception. All positions require the ability to lift 50 pounds.
