Job Overview:

The Paint Production Engineering Department is seeking a passionate and highly motivated Paint Materials Engineer. Reporting to the Paint Materials Manager, the candidate in this role will support the department's objective to be a global leader in new material development and advance plant-of-the-future initiatives to ensure operational flexibility and competitiveness. The primary responsibility of the Paint Materials Engineer is to evaluate and manage new model color paint trials and new material technologies, as well as support current production initiatives to reduce material cost and improve material performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead new color and material introductions to all facilities (body and resin paint) from lab workability through online testing and production approval, including trial planning, quality evaluations, and direction-setting recommendations.
  • Establish process controls and parameters for new materials/technologies and build consensus among cross-functional teams.
  • Lead materials-related problem solving across multiple divisions, applying structured problem-solving methods to identify root causes and countermeasures.
  • Support and assess cost-per-unit (CPU) and environmental impacts of new materials, quantify cost/benefit metrics, and lead decision-making with stakeholders.
  • Support department strategic objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficient in summarizing data and creating charts in Excel, as well as building presentations in PowerPoint.
  • Experience leading multiple projects that required coordination with stakeholders outside the immediate team, such as other departments, vendors, or external groups.
  • Experienced in analyzing data to identify the true root cause of a problem and implementing effective countermeasures.
  • Experience creating and presenting reports to multiple levels of management.
  • 1+ years of experience evaluating color and appearance of painted surfaces.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% to support facility competitiveness.

Nice to have:

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, or a related field.
  • Completed structured problem-solving training through panel evaluation.
  • Served as a subject matter expert or internal auditor for quality and process standards.
  • Project experience within a paint pilot function.
  • 1+ years of experience in a paint lab conducting workability evaluations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Due to nature of job The candidate must have Ability to work weekends, holidays, and shutdown periods to support projects.
