Packaging Machine Operator IIJob DescriptionSalary: $21/Hr. - $24/Hr.Location: Fall River, MA Shift: 2nd & 3rd ShiftSUMMARY:Machine Operator II is responsible for operating, monitoring, and troubleshooting packaging equipment to ensure products are packaged safely, efficiently, and according to Company’s quality and production standards. This position requires a strong understanding of packaging processes, equipment operation, food safety, and production procedures. Machine Operator II works closely with Production, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, and other team members to maintain production flow, minimize downtime, and ensure finished products meet established specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor packaging machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Set up, adjust, and make minor operational changes to packaging equipment as needed.
- Ensure proper packaging materials, labels, codes, and product specifications are being used.
- Monitor packaging lines for proper weight, seals, labels, dates, and overall product presentation.
- Perform quality checks throughout the production process and report any issues to the appropriate supervisor or Quality Assurance team.
- Troubleshoot minor equipment and packaging issues and communicate maintenance needs promptly.
- Assist with line changeovers, product changes, equipment adjustments, and start-ups.
- Maintain accurate production, quality, and equipment records as required.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP requirements, and all company safety policies.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the shift.
- Identify and report defective products, damaged packaging, or deviations from established specifications.
- Assist with training and provide guidance to Packaging Technicians and other production employees when assigned.
- Help ensure production goals and efficiency standards are met.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, leads, maintenance, sanitation, and quality personnel to resolve production issues.
- Safely operate pallet jacks and other equipment when authorized and trained.
- Follow all personal protective equipment (PPE), food safety, sanitation, and hygiene requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience in food manufacturing, packaging, production, or machine operation required.
- Experience in operating packaging machinery is strongly preferred.
- Ability to read and follow SOPs, work instructions, and production specifications.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to identify quality issues and take appropriate action.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to frequently bend, reach, stoop, twist, and use hands repetitively.
- Ability to lift and move materials and products as required by the position.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work in refrigerated or temperature-controlled production areas.
- Ability to safely perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
Work Environment
- Food manufacturing and production environment.
- Exposure to varying temperatures, including refrigerated areas.
- May be exposed to noise from production and packaging equipment.
- Must comply with all GMP, sanitation, hygiene, PPE, and food safety requirements.
- Schedule may require overtime, weekends, holidays, or schedule changes based on production needs.
Food Safety & GMP Requirements
- Employees must follow all Company food safety and GMP requirements, including:
- No jewelry in production areas.
- No artificial, acrylic, gel, or other prohibited nails.
- No nail polish where prohibited by GMP requirements.
- Proper hair restraints and required PPE must be worn.
- Proper handwashing and personal hygiene practices must be maintained.
- All food safety, allergen control, sanitation, and HACCP procedures must be followed.
