Job Title:Heavy Diesel Mechanic
Job Summary: Responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining customers, company, and shop related equipment in a safe, efficient, timely, cost effective, and practical manner. Maintains complete, timely, and accurate records on all maintenance performed by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Diagnose any mechanical, driveline, brake, suspension, electrical, or other breakdown or failure of a motor vehicle or related equipment.
- Troubleshoot and perform failure analysis of the component parts and system on a truck trailer, or the component parts and systems of a semi-trailer, or other vehicles, including tractors, containers, forklifts, hydraulic/electric lift gate equipment, and coach buses.
- Make proper use of both power and hand tools to repair or replace defective components of company fleet and other equipment.
- Use welding skills and knowledge of metals to complete vehicle repairs.
- Fill out maintenance records, pm sheets, dot inspection sheets, and other necessary reports to properly complete work, using computer software where applicable.
- Utilize vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.
- Estimate time and material costs on vehicle repairs and requisition parts.
- Conduct safety checks on vehicles.
- Assist senior technicians in the completion of project work.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with company and OSHA standards.
- Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates and Licenses:
- Department of Transportation inspection qualified.
- Department of Transportation qualified to perform annual brake inspections
- New York State heavy duty inspector’s license
- Commercial driver’s license class B
