The Office

The mission of the Seattle Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs (OIRA) is to improve the lives of Seattle's immigrant and refugee families. OIRA centers racial equity and community engagement in its work and seeks candidates who are committed to these values.

Job Responsibilities

The Job

We are recruiting for an Outreach and Engagement Specialist to join our team. In this job, you will serve as the hub that connects immigrants and refugees to City and local resources. You will make sure that each interaction is culturally robust and linguistically relevant. You will identify resource gaps and work to address them. You will staff the Immigrant and Refugee Commission, planning for and facilitating meetings, collaborating on work plans, and initiating and tracking projects. You will build upon current relationships with the Immigrant & Refugee Commission members, City departments, local non-profits, and community members. You will navigate political spaces with care and respect, improving the City's ability to engage. You will lead investment planning, grant writing, compliance, and contract management.

To be effective, you have:

• Lived experience as an immigrant or refugee and experience managing projects and programs that serve them, or deep work expertise supporting immigrant and refugee communities
• Strong project management, work coordination, prioritization, and adaptability skills
• Evaluated systems by identifying service gaps, analyzing data, making recommendations, and implementing improvements
• Built and maintained strong collaborative partnerships within/across an organization and with external partners
• Facilitated a Board, Commission, or similar group toward achieving common goals and successful outcomes
• Managed grants, contracts, and compliance
• Worked in a political environment
• Met tight timelines

Qualifications

A successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to supporting immigrants and refugees, evaluating and building systems, leading Boards/Commissions, and listening and communicating using an equity lens. This experience should be complemented by demonstrated knowledge and ability in the following areas:

• Current and emerging immigration and refugee community issues
• Contract/Grant administration, equity, compliance expertise
• Systems, infrastructure evaluation, and building skills
• Working successfully within a large, matrixed organization
• Building and maintaining internal and external partnerships
• Working in a dynamic, diverse, fast-paced political environment

Additional Information

This position is classified as a Strategic Advisor 1, Exempt. The full pay range for this position is $51.88-$77.22. Our target salary is $54.00 - $ 56.00 per hour.

This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Individual schedules will be based on agreement between the employee and management. Commission meetings occur on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:00 pm.
