    Outpatient Mental Health Counselor

    Job Summary

    As an Outpatient Mental Health Counselor, you will deliver regular, scheduled therapy sessions to clients seeking support around their work, school, and family life. You will build strong therapeutic relationships, customize treatment plans, and apply evidence-based methods such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, and family-systems work as appropriate.     Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct individual outpatient therapy sessions with clients on a weekly, biweekly, or other agreed-upon cadence
    • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on client goals and clinical presentation
    • Apply evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, EMDR, and family-systems approaches, as clinically indicated
    • Assess client progress regularly and adjust treatment strategies to ensure continued growth and goal attainment
    • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in compliance with organizational and regulatory standards
    • Coordinate care with other providers, such as psychiatrists or case managers, when necessary to support comprehensive treatment
    • Educate clients and, when appropriate, family members on coping strategies, treatment expectations, and available resources
    • Uphold client confidentiality and adhere to all relevant ethical and legal guidelines governing outpatient mental health care

    Required Qualifications

    • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field
    • Active state licensure in New Jersey (e.g., LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or equivalent) or license-eligible with plans to obtain licensure promptly
    • Demonstrated experience providing individual outpatient therapy to diverse client populations
    • Working knowledge of evidence-based treatment modalities such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, or family-systems therapy
    • Strong clinical assessment and treatment planning skills
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients from varied backgrounds
    • Ability to maintain thorough, accurate, and timely clinical documentation

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Certification or advanced training in EMDR, DBT, or family-systems therapy
    • Experience working within an outpatient mental health clinic or similar setting
    • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems
    • Bilingual capabilities to better serve a diverse client population

    Technical Skills

    • Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) and clinical documentation systems
    • Ability to utilize telehealth platforms, if applicable, for remote client sessions
    • Strong organizational skills to manage caseloads and scheduling across varying appointment cadences
    • Familiarity with standard office productivity tools for scheduling, documentation, and communication
