Position Information

This position is responsible for leading and facilitating Outdoor Recreation programs; directing assigned seasonal staff and volunteers during program operations; ensuring the safety, effectiveness, and quality of assigned programs; and serving as the primary on-site decision maker responsible for program execution, risk management, and participant experience

Essential Functions

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Ensures the safety of all program participants, staff, volunteers, and spectators. Leads assigned Outdoor Recreation programs from setup through completion. Provides on-site leadership and direction to assigned seasonal staff and volunteers. Serves as the primary point of contact for participants, parents, and visitors during assigned programs.

Conducts participant orientations and safety briefings. Determines participant readiness and ability to safely engage in assigned activities. Monitors participant behavior and compliance with established safety procedures. Makes on-site operational decisions regarding participant safety, environmental conditions, and program operations, including modifying, suspending, or canceling activities when necessary. Removes participants from activities when safety or behavioral concerns warrant.

Maintains an in-depth understanding of all assigned program activities. Demonstrates technical proficiency in assigned activity areas and maintains current certifications appropriate to program responsibilities. Ensures all programs are conducted in accordance with Department policies, operating procedures, and industry standards.

Coordinates the setup and breakdown of assigned programs. Selects, prepares, inspects, and properly stores equipment and supplies. Confirms activity areas, equipment, and safety systems meet Department standards prior to program operation. Removes unsafe equipment from service and reports equipment concern to the Outdoor Recreation Supervisor.

Maintains attendance records, participant documentation, incident reports, equipment reports, and other required records. Administers first aid and reports injuries, accidents, equipment concerns, and unusual incidents to the Outdoor Recreation Supervisor. Completes required program documentation and evaluations as assigned.

Communicates professionally with participants, parents, volunteers, County staff, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, exchange information, or resolve problems.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

This classification is designated as a safety sensitive position that is subject to random drug and alcohol testing and any other drug testing methods as stated in policies adopted by Forsyth County concerning drug and alcohol

Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Must possess and maintain valid First Aid/CPR/AED certification or obtain within six (6) months of hire. Requires successful completion of Department training and demonstration of competency in assigned program areas. Must possess or obtain any certifications required for assigned activities.

Must successfully pass a criminal background check. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia drivers license. Must possess an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) if required to operate County vehicles.
