    Description

    BlueWave is hiring a Network Engineer for a technology and engineering client based in Southaven, Mississippi. As Network Engineer, you will help redesign and redeploy critical production network infrastructure in a high-availability environment. You will design resilient network solutions, support implementation and troubleshooting, and collaborate with infrastructure, operations, facilities, and engineering stakeholders.

    Responsibilities

    • Design and implement highly available Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks using appropriate routing and redundancy technologies.
    • Design, deploy, and maintain data center, site, and production networks in accordance with established standards.
    • Evaluate and deploy network hardware, including switches, firewalls, multiplexing equipment, and software-defined WAN appliances.
    • Improve network automation and deployment tooling through configuration analysis, validation, and scalability enhancements.
    • Coordinate maintenance windows for software updates, hardware refreshes, and other network changes, including occasional evening or weekend work.
    • Troubleshoot network issues, document root causes, and lead retrospective reviews.
    • Provide real-time network support during critical operations and participate in on-call coverage.
    • Enhance monitoring and operational telemetry to identify issues before they affect operations.
    • Create and maintain architecture diagrams, design documentation, and operational procedures.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate network design risks and potential cascading failures.
    • Conduct site walks with stakeholders, vendors, and contractors to gather requirements and develop implementation plans.
    • Maintain network configurations in accordance with applicable industry and cybersecurity standards.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or another STEM discipline and at least three years of professional network engineering experience, or at least five years of professional network engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
    • Hands-on experience designing, deploying, supporting, and troubleshooting Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks in latency-sensitive or industrial environments.
    • Experience working with multiple network vendors in production or laboratory environments.
    • Experience using and contributing to GitOps and Infrastructure as Code frameworks.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills for working with internal stakeholders, external customers, vendors, and management.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Strong understanding of the OSI model and established networking standards.
    • Experience with enterprise-grade data center switching platforms.
    • Experience with fiber-optic infrastructure and wavelength-division multiplexing.
    • Knowledge of common enterprise and media protocols.
    • Experience with port security, network segmentation, quality of service, multicast, and redundancy protocols.
    • Familiarity with network monitoring and physical-layer testing tools.
    • Proficiency with scripting languages and infrastructure automation frameworks.
    • Linux and Windows system administration experience gained professionally or through lab work.
    • Industry-recognized networking certifications, such as CCNA or CCNP.
    • Experience supporting real-time systems, industrial control networks, or operational technology environments in high-reliability industries.

    Employment Type: 13-week onsite contract in Southaven, Mississippi, with potential to extend or convert to full-time employment.
