Outside Plant Field Engineer

OSP Field Engineer is responsible for the design and layout of OSP (Outside Plant) telecommunications network to include aerial, buried and underground Fiber network design and layout, underground conduit, manhole/hand hole, building entrance and riser facilities, utility, road and railroad crossings and other complex ROW issues.  Candidates must be familiar with engineering in the public right of way and on private property.  Other responsibilities of this position include researching plats and ROW dimensions at various municipalities, contact existing gas and electric companies for verification of facilities, and fully assess and design cost effective routes to various POP’s.  Aerial experience coordinating between telcom’s and electric companies is a requirement as well.  Candidates must possess the ability to meet or exceed business unit goals while maintaining quality standards, controlling expenses, and following company and business unit directives and practices. 

Skills/Requirements

The successful candidate must meet a majority of the knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience requirements outlined below:

 

Support the design and engineering process by planning and preparing drawings for construction of new, overlay, and removal or rearrangement of existing fiber optic and/or copper cables, and conduits.

Completes designs in accordance to customer specifications and guidelines

Prepare permits and or private easements, and research ROW limits

Ability to meet tight deadlines in order to meet critical shedules

Able to read and understand highway/road prints, be able to identify conflicts with existing outside plant facilities, select routing of lines and equipment required for relocation projects.

Be able to design a cost-effective path for Aerial and Buried environments in an Urban area.

This position requires field work performing audits of the route and physically recording field notes.  As such this position requires a lot of walking, and the ability to remove hand hole and man hole lids

Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal and analytical skills

Deep understanding of communications engineering and related systems

Minimum of 2-4 years of OSP experience

Exceptional critical thinking ability

Knowledge of National Electric Safety Code (NESC) Standards
