About the Agency
The Department of Audit, which employs some 120 persons, including approximately 30 Certified Public Accountants, comprises one of the largest auditing firms in the state. The Office is widely regarded as the definitive authority in matters pertaining to the use of public funds, and the recommendations offered by its auditors and other expert personnel are readily adhered to and respected throughout the state. The employees of the Department of Audit are mindful of the grave responsibility of upholding the public trust and strive to maintain the level of competence expected of them by virtue of their positions. The Mississippi Constitution grants specific duties and powers related to prescribing systems of accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting for public offices in Mississippi. It also enumerates other statutory responsibilities including study and analysis of existing public managerial policies and practices; pre-audit and post-audit functions; investigation of suspected fiscal violations; recovering misspent and stolen funds; and a variety of related duties and responsibilities. The mission of the Office of the State Auditor is to serve its stakeholders and protect the public's trust by independently assessing state and local governmental and other entities to ensure that public funds are properly received, are legally, effectively, and efficiently spent, and are accounted for and reported accurately. About the Position
This position is in the Investigations Division at the MS Office of the State Auditor. The applicant will be responsible for Investigations in and around Oxford, Mississippi. The applicant will conduct interviews and review records to compile evidence for presentation to the agency and/or other appropriate federal, state, and local officials. The applicant will perform field investigations and surveillance as necessary. The applicant will testify in court and before grand juries at the federal, state, and local level. The applicant will assist in preparing cases for court proceedings to recover illegally used or obtained public funds. The applicant will assist the District Attorney and the Attorney General in investigations of illegal conduct and make arrests as required. The applicant will prepare investigative reports and consult with management on actions to be taken. The applicant will compile documentation and write reports to recover public funds or for civil and criminal proceedings. The applicant will prepare reports of investigative findings and make recommendations to higher-level Senior Agents, the Deputy Director of Investigations, and the Director of Investigations. The applicant will perform related or similar duties as required or assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires 60 semester hours of college, possession of a State of Mississippi Law Enforcement Professional Certification, and 4-6 years of experience in law enforcement. - Hiring Agency Preferred Qualifications: Must have successfully completed any Certified Law Enforcement Training in the State of Mississippi that is recognized by the Board of Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training. Requires 60 semester hours of college and at least five (5) years of experience in conducting criminal investigations or in work related to the described duties.
