Orthopedics - Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (Corning, NY)

Guthrie Medical Group is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join its established Orthopedics team at Guthrie East Corning Orthopedics in Corning, New York, with scheduled clinical coverage at Big Flats Orthopedics in nearby Horseheads.

This is a balanced clinic-and-operating-room role supporting a high-volume total-joint practice while remaining connected to a broad regional orthopedic team. The successful advanced practice provider will care for orthopedic patients across the continuum, collaborate closely with surgeons, residents, APPs, LPNs and clinical assistants, and contribute to a team known for teaching, mutual coverage and low-ego teamwork.

Highlights of the Position

• Join an established, busy orthopedic practice with a strong regional referral base.
• Support a high-volume total-joint surgeon while also caring for a broad range of orthopedic conditions.
• Work a varied schedule that is typically three operating-room days and two clinic days, with flexibility based on the surgeon's OR schedule.
• Evaluate new and established patients, develop treatment plans, manage pre- and post-operative care, review diagnostic testing and provide patient education.
• Participate in the operating room and provide first-assist support when needed and appropriately trained and privileged; total-joint OR days typically include six to seven cases.
• Provide inpatient rounding, care coordination and shared call support as part of an approximately six-APP rotation.
• Work alongside Orthopaedic Surgery residents and faculty in a learning-focused environment where surgeons value teaching and APP development.
• Practice with clinical assistant and LPN support in a collegial team that routinely covers for one another.
• See patients at Guthrie East Corning Orthopedics on the Corning Hospital campus and at Big Flats Orthopedics in Horseheads.

Candidate Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
• Current New York State NP or PA license, or eligibility to obtain one, with appropriate national board certification.
• At least one year of orthopedic or comparable surgical APP experience; direct total-joint and operating-room experience is preferred.
• Ability to conduct comprehensive orthopedic assessments, formulate evidence-based plans of care and manage patients within the provider's education, certification, licensure and privileges.
• Ability to support operating-room workflow and complete all role-specific credentialing and privileging requirements; first-assist duties are assigned only when appropriately trained and privileged.
• Strong communication, sound clinical judgment, reliability and a collaborative, team-first approach.

Work-Life Balance 

• Full-time, Monday-Friday practice with a mix of clinic, OR and hospital-based responsibilities.
• Typical clinic template is 8:00 a.m.-3:45 p.m. with an hour for lunch and approximately 20-24 patients per day.
• Shared call generally includes one weekday per week and an approximately 1:6 weekend rotation.
• Residents take first call; APPs provide primarily phone-based secondary support and typically have a low in-person call burden.
• Inpatient rounding is shared, with each APP rotating through approximately one month of rounding every six months.
