    Job Summary

    Now hiring Full-Time and Part-Time Orthopedic Registered Nurses, AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is seeking compassionate, skilled nurses who are passionate about helping patients regain mobility, independence, and quality of life. The Orthopedic Registered Nurse provides safe, individualized nursing care to patients with orthopedic conditions and procedures while promoting and restoring health through the nursing process. This role collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary team members to deliver comprehensive care, provides physical and emotional support to patients and families, and may supervise assigned team members to ensure quality care. Responsibilities are performed in accordance with facility policies, procedures, standards of practice, and applicable state nursing regulations.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients’ physiological, psychological, developmental, sociocultural, spiritual, and lifestyle needs.

    • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans based on patient needs and standards of care.

    • Administer medications and treatments accurately and safely in accordance with physician orders and hospital protocols.

    • Monitor patients for changes in condition and respond appropriately to promote safety and recovery.

    • Educate patients and families on health conditions, treatments, medications, mobility precautions, and self-care strategies.

    • Collaborate with physicians, therapy teams, case management, and other departments to coordinate optimal patient care and discharge planning.

    • Support early mobility, pain management, fall prevention, neurovascular monitoring, and complication prevention.

    • Maintain clear, accurate documentation and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills

    • Knowledge of nursing care methods, procedures, and standards of practice

    • Excellent neurovascular assessment skills

    • Ability to recognize subtle changes in patient condition

    • Strong pain management knowledge

    • Understanding of joint replacement and spine protocols

    • Knowledge of fall prevention, DVT prevention, infection prevention, and skin breakdown prevention

    • Ability to reinforce mobility and weight-bearing restrictions

    • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

    • Strong organizational and multitasking skills

    • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a unit-based team

    • Strong patient education and discharge planning skills

    • Attention to detail and sound clinical judgment

    • Ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care

    Education

    • Associate Degree in Nursing required

    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred

    Experience

    • One or more years of acute care hospital experience preferred

    Licenses and Certifications

    • Registered Nurse (RN) required

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) required
